Former state president of Tamil Nadu BJP K. Annamalai announced on Friday (June 5) that he would be starting a new political journey after resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party. He said that they were starting a new political movement and appealed to the public to support the campaign.

**Towards a new political direction**

Talking about his political journey, Annamalai told that he had done an internship in DMDK in 2009 and joined BJP in 2020. Now he is moving towards a new political direction.

**Rajinikanth had offered to join the party**

He told that before joining BJP on August 24, 2020, actor Rajinikanth had called him and invited him to join his prospective political party. However, having already given a commitment to BJP national general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh, he turned down Rajnikanth’s offer and joined the BJP instead.

**Starting a new political movement**

Annamalai said that his aim is to start a politics that is clean, transparent and deeply connected to the grassroots level. He announced that the name of his new political movement would be “We the Leaders”. Apart from this, the members joining the movement will be given training in political and moral leadership through an organization called “APJ Abdul Kalam Ethics in Politics”. He said that once his political party is formed, term limits will be implemented to effectively curb caste politics and a culture dominated by political families.

**Expressed respect towards PM Modi**

Expressing respect for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Annamalai said that she will always have great respect for the PM. However, if there is any difference of opinion between him and BJP on any issue, he will raise it with full seriousness and clarity. He also said that even while being in BJP, he had opposed the three-language policy.

**What did he say about resigning from BJP?**
Talking about his resignation, Annamalai said that he had met Union Home Minister Amit Shah to express his views openly and point out the shortcomings of the party before leaving the post. He said that he is not the kind of person who would just send his resignation from a distance; Instead, he decided to step aside respectfully after presenting his case directly to the party leadership.
