Bareilly, November 3 (IANS). All India Muslim Jamaat (AIJM) national president Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi reacted to Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s social media post declaring Umar Khalid innocent.
He said that what Congress leader Digvijay Singh said about Umar Khalid applies to others also. Others including Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam are currently in jail. There was a big riot in Delhi in 2020 and these people were involved in it. Bail is a legal right of every person and justice should be based on the rule of law.
At the same time, on Digvijay Singh’s post declaring Omar Khalid innocent, State Women Commission Vice President Aparna Yadav said that Osama Bin Laden was also highly educated and had destroyed the World Trade Center. Whether someone has a degree does not determine whether he is a terrorist or not.
Congress leader Digvijay Singh had written on social media platform X on Sunday that Umar Khalid is innocent, a lot of injustice is being done to him. He is a PhD scholar and is not a traitor by any standards. He should be released immediately.
Let us tell you that the Delhi riots took place in North-East Delhi in February 2020, in which 53 people were killed and hundreds were injured. Umar Khalid was arrested in September 2020 and has been in jail since then.
Many human rights organizations have described his arrest as political, while the police consider it a matter related to national security.
