As part of the statewide crackdown following the massive fire at ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub in Goa on December 6, which killed 25 people, the administration sealed another club in Vagator.
The famous night club ‘Cafe CO2 Goa’, located on the banks of the Arabian Sea on the Vagator coast of North Goa, was sealed on Saturday. Two days before this, ‘Goya Club’ in Vagator itself was closed on charges of violation of rules.
The state government team inspected ‘CO2 Goa’ and found that the club, with a capacity of 250 people, did not have a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Fire and Emergency Services Department. Additionally, the fire service also canceled the NOC of ‘Diaz Pool Club & Bar’ located in Anjuna due to inadequate equipment.
At the same time, Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal attacked the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party over the incident. Campaigning at Chimbel village near Panaji, he alleged that the tragedy was due to the “corruption” of the state’s Pramod Sawant-led government as the club was operating illegally without possession certificate, building or business license and it was possible due to “hafta (bribes)”, for which he held officials, MLAs and ministers responsible.
