Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday accused the Nehru-Gandhi family of “never having good feelings towards Assam” and reminded former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of his comments during the Chinese invasion in 1962.
Addressing a gathering in Assam’s Kamrup, Shah stressed that no one can occupy even an inch of land in Assam and highlighted the development and peace initiatives of the BJP government in the state.
Shah said, “Gandhi family, Nehru family, all of them never had any affection towards Assam. When China attacked in 1962, Jawaharlal Nehru said ‘tata-bye-bye’ to Assam. Is Assam your father’s property? Today I am saying, no one can snatch even an inch of Assam’s land. This is India’s Assam. Brothers and sisters, the state president here is accused of having links with India’s enemy country. They are some No. Congress built three bridges in 60 years.”
He further said, “In ten years, BJP has built the largest number of bridges in Asia, including the longest bridges in Assam. Four bridges have been built and two are under construction. Our policy has been ‘Vision for Assam’, ‘Aspiration for Assam’ and ‘Inspire Assam’.”
Shah said the BJP government worked to bring peace in Assam through 13 agreements and liberated Batadrava police station.
He further said, “We have worked to bring peace in Assam through 13 agreements. We have liberated Batadrava Than, we have worked to liberate the forests of Kaziranga. We have made Charaideo Ground a World Heritage Centre. 11,000 artistes performed Bihu dance together at Sarusajai Stadium. And we have worked to carry forward the culture of Assam.”
Shah hit out at the Congress over its alleged soft stance towards infiltrators and claimed that the state was handed over to them under the previous government.
He further said, “The Congress government had handed over this very Assam to the infiltrators. These infiltrators are grabbing the land of the poor people of Assam. They have encroached on the forests of Kaziranga. They are snatching employment opportunities from our youth. In the last ten years, BJP has freed 1 lakh 50 thousand acres of land from infiltrators in important parts of Assam. Once again elect the BJP government here, and the BJP government will take over the entire Assam. Will take the lead in getting rid of the infiltrators. Make Himanta Biswa Sarma the Chief Minister once again, and we will work to root out every infiltrator.”
On the issue of infrastructure and education, Shah criticized the Congress for opposing the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) at Palasbari, which was brought by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the benefit of Assamese youth.
He further said, “We have to ensure that the BJP wins all the six seats in Kamrup and forms the BJP government for the third time. However, this time we have to cross the 90 seats mark and form the BJP government. When Prime Minister Modi brought the IIM in Palasbari, his aim was to ensure that the youth of Palasbari and Assam can study in the IIM. Still, the Congress party is opposing the IIM. The Congress party has tried to stop the bill for the Palasbari IIM. “Worked actively for.”
The BJP, in alliance with the Assam Gana Parishad and the Bodoland People’s Front, is aiming to retain power for the third consecutive term. Congress, on the other hand, is challenging the BJP-led alliance with an alliance of six parties including Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP), Raijor Dal, CPI(M), CPI(ML) and All Party Hill Leaders Conference.
In Assam, elections are going to be held in a single phase on 9 April for 126 seats across the state. Counting of votes will take place on May 4.
