New Delhi, June 30 (IANS). A proposal has been approved in the Delhi Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, under which 75 monuments under the Delhi government, including Mirza Ghalib’s Haveli in Ballimaran, Chandni Chowk, will be allowed to be adopted by non-governmental organizations, NGOs and other institutions.
According to an official statement released on Tuesday, under this proposal the responsibility of conservation and maintenance of these monuments will be handed over to trusts, NGOs, foundations or other institutions.
The statement said that all 75 monuments, including Turkman Gate on Asaf Ali Road and Baradari of Qudsia Garden, come under the Archeology Department of Delhi Government.
About a dozen of these monuments are located in the Mehrauli Archaeological Park and around the northern and southern ridge areas.
The list of 75 monuments also includes a tower at Lodhi Garden, an unnamed mosque, a stepwell, remains of a mosque and a walled garden and its entrance.
According to the official statement, the list also includes the ‘Mutiny Memorial’ located in the North Ridge area near Hindurao Hospital.
Apart from this, many monuments located in Badarpur village have also been included in the list. These include the northern gateway, central gateway and southern gateway of Badarpur Sarai and the remains of the complex.
Sheikh Ali’s Gumti located in Defense Colony, Gol Gumbad near Lodhi Road flyover, Munda Gumbad located in Deer Park near Hauz Khas Tank, Bada Lao Gumbad, Mosque, Baoli and Water Channel located at DDA Park near Priya Cinema in Vasant Vihar, and Darvesh Shah’s Mosque located at Siri Auditorium near Khel Gaon are also among the monuments whose maintenance is planned to be handed over to other institutions.
Apart from this, the entrance of Mahaldar Khan Garden near Gur Ki Mandi in Rana Pratap Bagh, Baoli of Dwarka Sector-12, S.P. Malcha Mahal on Mukherjee Marg, Imambara on Qutub Road and Bhuli Bhatiyari Palace located in the Southern Ridge area near Karol Bagh are also among the monuments which are to be handed over to NGOs.
