Patna, October 10 (IANS). Manjhi assembly constituency, located in Saran district of Bihar, is part of the Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat. This region is situated at the confluence of the Ganga and Ghaghra rivers, which makes it geographically unique. The land of Manjhi is extremely fertile, but there is always a possibility of flood. Agriculture is the backbone of the economy here, with paddy, pulses and mustard being the major crops.
The entire constituency is rural and does not include any urban population. This area is also very important from religious point of view. Shiv Shakti Dham situated in Gobarhi village of Manjhi block is the main center of faith of the people of the area. Especially in the month of Sawan, a huge crowd of devotees gather here.
Manjhi assembly constituency is ethnically diverse. The Rajput community is the largest voter group here, followed by Muslims, Yadavs, Bhumihars, Kurmis and Brahmins. Scheduled castes also form a large part of the voters. Apart from this, other social groups like Kushwaha and Kayastha also have an important role.
After its formation in 1951, Manjhi assembly constituency has seen many ups and downs in the politics of Bihar. In the first election held in 1952, Girish Tiwari of Congress became the first MLA from this seat and was elected for three consecutive times. After him, leaders like Rameshwar Dutt Sharma also continued representing Congress.
With time, Janata Dal, JDU and independent candidates also won this seat, which makes it clear that voters are constantly looking for political alternatives.
In the 2015 assembly elections, Vijay Shankar Dubey of Congress won by defeating Keshav Singh of LJP. At the same time, in the 2020 elections, Manjhi assembly constituency took a new turn when CPI(M)’s Satyendra Yadav defeated independent candidate Rana Pratap Singh and put this seat in the account of the Left party for the first time. He was supported by the RJD-Congress-Left alliance, and the seat was given to the CPI(M) as part of the seat sharing.
After the delimitation in 2008, the new form of Manjhi assembly constituency was decided. It covered several panchayat areas of Jalalpur, Manjhi and Baniya blocks, including Sarbisaraya, Sitalpur, Tajpur, Adarsh Gram Bareja, Madan Sath, Ghorhat, Dumari, Jaitpur, Inayatpur, Nasira, Baleshra, Daudpur, Lejuar, Bangra, Sonbarsa, Marhan, Manjhi East, Manjhi West, Kauru-Dhauru, Karahi, Manikpura and Includes lava art.
