Patna, December 10 (IANS). After the defeat in Bihar elections, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has suffered another big blow on Wednesday. Senior RJD leader and former Bihar minister Vijay Krishna resigned from all posts including primary membership of the party.
He sent his resignation letter to RJD national president Lalu Prasad Yadav, saying, “I have decided to withdraw from party politics and active politics. Therefore, I am resigning from the primary membership and all posts of Rashtriya Janata Dal. Please accept it.”
Vijay Krishna has been counted among the influential leaders of RJD for a long time.
He came into limelight after defeating veteran JDU leader Nitish Kumar from Barh constituency in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections.
Despite being an active and prominent figure in the party for many years, growing dissatisfaction with the leadership is said to be the reason for his leaving the party.
However, his political journey has been full of controversies.
In the 1999 Lok Sabha elections, Vijay Krishna had accused Nitish Kumar of election rigging.
He later approached the court, but his plea was rejected.
In 2004, he contested the elections from Barh and won the seat, once again challenging Nitish Kumar.
Vijay Krishna’s career took a dramatic turn in 2009, when transporter Satyendra Singh was murdered in Krishnapuri police station area of Patna.
Vijay Krishna, his son Chanakya and two others were made accused in the case.
In 2013, a civil court in Patna convicted him and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
After spending almost 10 years in jail, Vijay Krishna got a big relief from Patna High Court.
