Bihar: Nitish Kumar resigns from the post of CM, preparations begin to form a new government.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced that he has submitted his resignation to Governor Syed Ata Hasnain. Kumar, the longest serving Chief Minister of Bihar, made this announcement on Tuesday after meeting the Governor at Lok Bhawan.

Kumar along with Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, JDU National Working President Sanjay Jha and Minister of State Vijay Chaudhary reached Lok Bhavan and submitted his resignation.

“I have worked a lot for the people of Bihar. Recently, I decided to step down as chief minister…and so, after today’s cabinet meeting, I met the governor and submitted my resignation to him,” Kumar said in a post on Twitter.

The 75-year-old JDU chief became a Rajya Sabha MP last week. Kumar wrote in a social media post, “Now the responsibility of work in Bihar will be of the new government. The new government will get my full support and guidance.”

Earlier, Nitish Kumar chaired the state cabinet meeting at the old secretariat.

Speaking to reporters after the cabinet meeting, Sanjay Jha had said, “This was the last cabinet meeting in which the Chief Minister addressed all the MLAs. He said that this is his last cabinet meeting as the Chief Minister. He said that after the cabinet meeting he will go to meet the Governor.”

He stressed that the present government and future governments will continue to work under the guidance of Nitish Kumar and described it as an “emotional moment” for the people of the state.

Talking to journalists on the political developments taking place in the state, Jha said that the changes in the state under the leadership of Nitish Kumar have restored the pride of the people here. He said, “This is an emotional moment for the 14 crore people of Bihar. We always say that before the arrival of Nitish ji, we were ashamed to be called Bihari, but after his arrival, the respect and prestige of Bihar remained intact.”

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Vinod Narayan Jha said that the BJP legislature party meeting will be held from 2 pm and after that the NDA meeting will be held.

Speaking to reporters, the BJP MLA further said, “There will be a BJP legislature party meeting from 2 pm, after which there will be an NDA meeting. Our national leaders are coming here.”

Bharatiya Janata Party’s National General Secretary (Organization) BL Santosh also reached Patna to attend the meeting.

On Monday, Bihar BJP State President Sanjay Saraogi said that the BJP Legislature Party meeting will be held today at 3 pm in the party office, in which the party leader will be elected. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be present as a central observer.

He further informed that there will be a meeting of NDA at 4 pm in the Central Hall of Bihar Assembly, where the final decision of the leader of the legislative party will be taken.
