Hyderabad, April 17 (IANS). Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao has held the BJP responsible for the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.
He said that this bill could not be passed because the BJP deliberately linked it to the controversial issue of delimitation, thereby derailing the process of its passing. He said that all political parties including BRS had supported reservation for women, but due to the political attitude of BJP, this bill could not succeed.
She alleged that by linking the bill with unnecessary delimitations, the BJP had created avoidable problems and thus prevented women from getting the representation they were entitled to.
KTR said in a statement that reservation could have been immediately implemented within the existing 543 Lok Sabha seats, but the BJP chose to politicize the issue.
The BRS leader accused the BJP of trying to harm the southern states by linking women’s reservation to delimitation, and ignoring the concerns raised by several parties. He said that due to this attitude a historic opportunity for empowerment of women was missed.
KTR said that the people of the country have seen the political drama of BJP in the name of women’s reservation. He alleged that the party used the issue for electoral gains and has now betrayed the women of the entire country.
He demanded that the BJP should immediately bring a new women’s reservation bill, not link it to delimitation and to prove its seriousness, ensure that it is implemented from the upcoming elections itself.
KTR said delimitation is a complex issue and warned that the current method could reduce the representation of southern states in Parliament. He urged the Center to hold comprehensive deliberations and discussions before moving forward.
He said that the BJP should learn a lesson from the developments in Parliament that it should not try to impose unilateral decisions on sensitive national issues.
Telangana Jagruti President K Kavitha has alleged that the BJP has once again betrayed the women of India. He knew very well that the opposition would vote against this bill if delimitation was linked to women’s reservation.
He said in his social media post that the government introduced this bill in a hurry despite knowing that they did not have the required numbers.
He further said that the sentiments of the women of this country are being used for political gains. I appeal to all women to understand this web of deception and teach the BJP a lesson, starting from West Bengal, where a woman is leading this fight. Secondly, now that this bill has not been passed, they should wait for the 2027 census so that a sub-quota for OBCs can be included. Unless all communities are uplifted, representation remains hollow.
