Ranchi, February 28 (IANS). 47 results of the elections held in 48 urban bodies of Jharkhand have been declared and the picture has become clear to a great extent. According to the results declared, till now BJP-backed candidates have won in 13 municipal bodies, JMM-backed candidates have won in 11 bodies, Congress-backed candidates have won at three places, while independent candidates have won the maximum of 18 bodies.
Apart from this, one seat has gone to the account of CPI(ML) supported candidate. The results for the post of Mayor have been declared in eight out of nine municipal corporations. In Ranchi Municipal Corporation, BJP supported Roshni Khalkho defeated Congress supported Rama Khalkho. In Medininagar, BJP supported Aruna Shankar defeated Congress supported Namrata Tripathi.
Independent candidate Arvind Rana won in Hazaribagh. JMM-supported Ravi Raut emerged victorious in Deoghar, while JMM-supported Pramila Mehra won in Giridih. BJP supported Sanjay Sardar won in Adityapur and Congress supported Sudha Gupta emerged victorious in Mango Municipal Corporation. In Dhanbad Municipal Corporation, independent candidate Sanjeev Singh is leading over JMM-backed Chandrashekhar Agarwal and the final result is awaited.
The results of 39 small urban bodies, Nagar Panchayat and Municipal Council have also been revealed. Of these, 17 independent candidates won, 10 supported by BJP, 9 supported by JMM, 2 supported by Congress and 1 supported by CPI (ML). Under the post of Nagar Panchayat President, Ajay Bharti from Hussainabad, Kumari Sheela Choudhary from Hariharganj, Arvind Gupta from Chhatarpur, Sadhana Devi from Shri Banshidharnagar, Sumitra Devi from Majhiyan, Sajid Hussain Lallu from Koderma, Veena Devi from Basukinath and Asha Gupta from Jamtara won as independents.
BJP-supported winners include Mahesh Singh from Latehar, Umesh Verma from Domchanch, Shobha Devi from Badkisariya, Prabodh Soren from Mahagama, Arpita Das from Barharwa and Rani Tuti from Khunti. Among the JMM supported candidates, Ketabuddin from Rajmahal, Jitendra Oraon from Bundu, Manoj Kumar Chaudhary from Seraikela and Somwari Soren from Chakulia were victorious, while Vinay Kumar Santhalia from Dhanwar was elected as a CPI(ML) supported candidate.
In the results for the post of Municipal Council President, Ashish Soni from Garhwa, Geeta Devi from Vishrampur, Ataur Rahman from Chatra, Ramesh Harshadhar from Jhumritilaiya, Sushil Ramani from Godda, Shabari Pal from Pakur, Sunita Devi from Chirkunda, Oliver Lakra from Simdega and Parvez Alam from Kapali won in the independent category. Among BJP supported candidates, Meeti Kumari from Madhupur, Jayshree Devi from Mihijam, Anil Oraon from Lohardaga and Shakuntala Oraon from Gumla were victorious.
Among the JMM supported candidates, Ramnath Paswan from Sahibganj, Abhishek Chaurasia from Dumka, Shani Oraon from Chakradharpur, Nitin Prakash from Chaibasa and Naushan Khan from Jugsalai won. Among Congress supported candidates, Nirmala Devi from Phusro and Kusumlata Kumari from Ramgarh were elected. It is clear from the declared results that this time there was a multi-cornered contest in the urban bodies of the state and voters gave importance to local issues, personal image and grassroots activism.
