BJP's double engine government is running, but only for billionaires: Rahul Gandhi

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday accused the BJP-led governments of widespread corruption and abuse of power, saying their double-engine governments have managed to fail the poor, workers and the middle class.

He raised questions as to why people responsible in cases like Ankita Bhandari murder case are still being given protection.

Rahul Gandhi said in a post on

He said, “The brutal murder of Ankita Bhandari in Uttarakhand shocked the entire nation – but the question remains the same: Which VIP of the BJP is the protection of power protecting? When will the law be equal for all?”

Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of protecting criminals and abusing power, and cited the example of the Unnao case in Uttar Pradesh where the victim had to fight for justice.

He also expressed concern over the damage caused to public safety and the environment and alleged that rules were being ignored to serve the interests of big companies at the expense of ordinary citizens.

He wrote, “Even in the Unnao incident of Uttar Pradesh, the whole country has seen how the criminals were saved in the pride of power and how much the victim had to pay for justice. Be it the deaths due to drinking poisonous water in Indore or the complaints of “black water” and contaminated supplies in Gujarat-Haryana-Delhi – there is fear of diseases everywhere. Be it the Aravalli of Rajasthan or the natural resources – wherever the greed and selfishness of the billionaires have reached, Here and there the rules are being trampled. Mountains are being cut down, forests are being destroyed – and the public is getting in return: dust, pollution and disaster.”

The Congress leader alleged that frequent accidents and failures in public services, including deaths in hospitals, collapse of school buildings and breakdown of infrastructure, are the result of corruption under the BJP rule.

He claimed that the government responds only with publicity and compensation instead of accountability.

Rahul wrote, “Children dying due to cough syrup, rats killing newborns in government hospitals, collapsing roofs of government schools – this is not “negligence”, but a direct hit of corruption. Bridges collapse, roads cave in, families are wiped out in train accidents and the BJP government does the same every time: photo-ops, tweets and formalities of compensation. Modi ji’s “double engine” is running – but only for billionaires. For the common Indian, this double engine government of corruption is not the pace of development, but the speed of destruction – which is crushing someone’s life every day.
