Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Tariq Rahman after the predicted results of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) victory in the 13th parliamentary elections of Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Modi said that this victory shows the confidence of the Bangladeshi people in his leadership.

In a post on Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “I heartily congratulate Shri Tariq Rahman for leading BNP to a decisive victory in the parliamentary elections in Bangladesh. This victory reflects the confidence of the people of Bangladesh in your leadership.”

He further said that India will continue to support a democratic and progressive Bangladesh and looks forward to strengthening bilateral relations.

Prime Minister Modi wrote, “India will continue its support for a democratic, progressive and inclusive Bangladesh. I look forward to working with you to strengthen our multi-dimensional relations and advance our shared development goals.”

Earlier in the day, the BNP said it was ready to form the government while counting continues for the 13th parliamentary election in the country.

In a post on Twitter, the BNP media cell said, “Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP is ready to form the government by winning the majority of seats.”

Local media reports indicate that the BNP is set to achieve a historic victory in the elections.

According to Daily Star, counting of votes has been completed in 249 constituencies, with only 50 constituencies left to count.

According to the Daily Star report, out of 299 seats, BNP and its allies have won 181 seats, while Jamaat and its allies have won 61 seats.

These preliminary figures indicate a significant change in the political landscape of Bangladesh.

BNP President Tariq Rehman has requested to postpone the victory celebrations in honor of the death of his mother Khaleda Zia before the elections. Therefore, he has called for prayers for Khaleda Zia after the Friday congregational prayers.

According to Daily Star, Rehman has been declared unofficially elected from Bogura-6 (Sadar) constituency after he won decisively over his nearest rival.

Bangladesh held its most important elections on Thursday as it tries to enter a new chapter from the classic ‘battle of the begums’ era.

The election appears to be tense following the death of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and the ban on her rival Sheikh Hasin’s party, the Awami League.
