Guwahati, March 11 (IANS). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the check distribution program under the Chief Minister Self-reliant Assam Abhiyan (CMAAA) 1.0 at Khanpara Veterinary Field in Guwahati on Wednesday. The main objective of this program is to make the youth of the state economically strong and self-reliant by providing them self-employment opportunities.
During the program, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma handed over checks to the beneficiaries selected under the scheme. During this, he said that the government is committed to empowering the youth and creating employment across Assam. Sarma said that under this scheme, eligible youth can get financial assistance up to Rs 2 lakh without any mortgage or collateral. The government is planning to increase further assistance to young entrepreneurs in future by linking this assistance to the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana.
The Chief Minister explained in detail that in the first phase of CMAAA 1.0, about one lakh youth will be given Rs 1 lakh as initial installment. In the second phase, 12,000 beneficiaries will receive additional assistance, while in the final phase another 12,000 youth will be provided the full assistance of Rs 2 lakh.
“It is a matter of pride for us that a strong model of self-employment is being created in Assam,” he said.
The beneficiaries in the program praised this initiative of the government. Speaking to news agency IANS, a female beneficiary said, “We have benefited a lot from the government’s efforts. With financial assistance, we can increase our earnings and earn more income than before. The government is paying special attention to women, thanks to them.”
Another female beneficiary said that this help is very useful for them, which will enable them to increase their income. “Nothing happened in earlier governments, but the current government is very helpful,” said a male beneficiary.
A beneficiary who runs a bakery shop said, “With the first Rs 1 lakh we received, we will expand our business.”
Commenting on the global LPG situation, CM Sarma expressed confidence in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said that there was a possibility of shortage of oxygen during the Covid-19 pandemic, but the PM handled the situation efficiently. He expressed confidence that despite the current global crisis, the Prime Minister will ensure that there is no shortage of domestic LPG in Assam.
