Chennai, April 16 (IANS). DMK chief and state Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday protested against the issue of delimitation in Tamil Nadu by hoisting a black flag and registering his strong protest by burning a copy of the proposal related to delimitation.

During this, CM Stalin gave the slogan, ‘Tamil Nadu will fight, Tamil Nadu will win.’

Following the Chief Minister’s call, protests were seen across the state. A black flag was also hoisted outside his residence in Chennai. After the Chief Minister burns copies of the ‘Constituency Delimitation Bill’, the DMK will hold protests across the state at corporation, city, town, union, ward and booth levels by burning copies of the bill at 11:00 am. The DMK has also appealed to the public to hoist black flags on all their houses and business establishments for the next three days starting from Thursday, condemning this bill of the Central Government.

In fact, a day earlier on Wednesday, CM Stalin had issued a video message appealing to the people of Tamil Nadu to protest against this proposal by putting up black flags at their homes and public places on Thursday.

In his video message, Chief Minister Stalin described the delimitation proposal as a serious threat to Tamil Nadu. He alleged that this process was a betrayal of the southern states and would further strengthen the political power of the northern states.

He said, “Tamil Nadu will not sit silent. Every family will take to the streets and protest. I had said this in my video earlier also.” Taking aim at the Central Government, CM Stalin said that good suggestions are being ignored and an attempt is being made to suppress the voice of Tamil Nadu through this amendment.

Chief Minister Stalin also alleged that the Central Government is claiming that the number of seats will be increased in Tamil Nadu and other southern states but in reality the seats are being determined as per the needs of the northern states. At the same time, the needs of the southern states are being ignored.

The Chief Minister had raised the question, “Are we being punished for the steps taken to control population? If we stand for the development of the country, will our political power be taken away?”

In the video message, he had further said that through this process, an attempt is being made to make the people of Tamil Nadu and southern states ‘second class citizens’.

CM Stalin had appealed to the people to unite and oppose this proposed law and called it a ‘black law’. In the video message he had said that now the time has come for the people of Tamil Nadu to show their strength to the BJP in Delhi.

The Chief Minister had warned that delimitation should not be done on the basis of population alone and this law would not be allowed to be implemented.
