New Delhi, January 29 (IANS). Congress MP Pramod Tiwari has defended party members after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) attacks on the uproar during President Draupadi Murmu’s address. He said that the government is lying and misleading the country.
Speaking to news agency IANS, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said, “The government is lying and misleading the country. The entire country saw that when the President stood up to give a speech, we made only one demand – implement MNREGA. This is the voice of 40-50 crore unemployed people, labourers, farmers and common citizens of this country. If we do not raise this issue before the President, then before whom will we raise it?”
He said that we neither boycotted the House nor went inside the House. We just asked to bring to the notice of the President that MNREGA should be brought back.
The Congress MP also said that we showed full respect and reverence towards the President. Respected him. Our protest is only on the fact that the address given by the President is only a proposal of the government. Our protest is against the Council of Ministers of the Modi government and the part where they insulted Mahatma Gandhi by withdrawing MNREGA and snatching the guarantee of employment to crores of people.
Let us tell you that during the address of President Draupadi Murmu, opposition parties created a ruckus in the Parliament on Wednesday. The President had praised the ‘Ji Ram Ji’ scheme in his address. “The Bharat-Village Act has been developed for employment and development in rural areas,” he said.
On this, as soon as the BJP-NDA MPs thumped the tables in praise, the opposition MPs stood up and protested, demanding withdrawal of the law. Due to the uproar the President had to stop his address.
Union Health Minister JP Nadda also accused him of creating ruckus during the discussion of ‘Vande Mataram’ in the President’s speech. He said that the opposition including Congress habitually violated parliamentary decorum. He said that such disruptions in Parliament are absolutely unacceptable and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances. The opposition should apologize on this.
