Congress on Saturday targeted the Modi government over the new US national security strategy and said it marks a major change in the US approach towards Pakistan.
Party general secretary Jairam Ramesh also said that the document referred to US President Donald Trump’s claim that he had resolved the military conflict between India and Pakistan.
Ramesh said that the 33-page National Security Strategy document has been released by the White House.
“In his introduction to the document, President Trump reiterated his claim that he ‘resolved the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan,'” Ramesh said. The same claim is repeated on page eight.” He claimed that the National Security Strategy 2025 also marks a major change in the US approach towards Pakistan.
“It avoids the pointed criticism that defined Trump’s 2017 strategy document, which openly accused Pakistan of supporting terrorists targeting US partners, called for tough counterterrorism actions and pressured Islamabad to demonstrate responsible management of its nuclear arsenal,” Ramesh said. Any such reference has been discarded in the new strategy.” He took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi by quoting a song from the Dev Anand starrer ‘Guide’ (1965), ‘Kya se kya ho gaya, bewafa teri dosti mein’.
The Congress general secretary also shared ‘screenshots’ of the document where reference has been made to Trump’s claims of preventing the India-Pakistan conflict in May. Ramesh also shared the Whitehouse website link of the document.
US President Trump has claimed more than 60 times that he resolved the military conflict between India and Pakistan in May last through a trade agreement.
On the other hand, India says that the decision to stop military action was taken after Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) was contacted.
