Thiruvananthapuram, March 15 (IANS). The Communist Party of India Marxist on Sunday released its list of candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in Kerala, fielding 75 candidates, including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and nine members of his cabinet.
Announcing the list of candidates soon after the election schedule was made public, party state secretary MV Govindan said the candidates included 56 sitting MLAs.
He said as part of the broader electoral pact within the Left Democratic Front, the party has also decided to field independent candidates in six constituencies.
He further said that the candidates for the remaining five constituencies will be announced soon.
The list includes the names of all nine cabinet ministers of the Left government, including Tourism Minister PA Mohammed Riyas, who is also Vijayan’s son-in-law.
This announcement comes soon after the Election Commission announced that voting for all 140 assembly seats in the state will be held on April 9 and the counting of votes will take place on May 4.
Election campaign activities gained momentum across the state with the party releasing its list of candidates.
Within an hour of the announcement of the election schedule, General Education Minister V. Sivankutty began campaigning in the state capital and launched a road show in his constituency.
Kerala will go to polls in a single phase on April 9 and counting of votes will take place on May 4, 2026.
