Kolkata, May 2 (IANS). CPI(M) leader and senior lawyer Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya has targeted Trinamool Congress on re-polling of West Bengal Assembly elections 2026 and related issues.
Talking to IANS about the re-poll, Bhattacharya said, “This is a repeat of the same polling that happened last time. People are coming out to vote to express their opinion. Now let’s see what the outcome is.”
On the Supreme Court upholding the Election Commission’s circular, Bhattacharya said it was a legal matter which was not much needed. He said, “The Supreme Court did the right thing. How elections are conducted is the jurisdiction of the Election Commission. The court had no option but to refuse, because elections should be free, fair and without any hindrance.”
On the virtual meeting held by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and MP Abhishek Banerjee with party leaders, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya called it a ‘drama to boost the morale of goons’. He said, “TMC is a party whose real control is in the hands of the goons. This time they could not perform as well as in the previous elections, hence they are disappointed. Now efforts are being made to boost the morale of the goon leaders.”
Welcoming the deployment of additional police observers, Bhattacharya said, “Vote counting should be completely hassle-free. “It is very important to maintain people’s faith in democracy. If this trust is broken then anarchy can spread, which is dangerous for the country.”
On the viral photo of the OC of Kalighat police station with a gun, he said, “The administration should work as per the law and not as per the wishes of the political masters. If the administration works within the ambit of the law, there will be no problem.”
