Datia by-election: Congress made former MLA Ghanshyam Singh its candidate, Kharge approved

दतिया उपचुनाव : कांग्रेस ने पूर्व विधायक घनश्याम सिंह को बनाया उम्मीदवार, खड़गे ने दी मंजूरी

Bhopal, July 11 (IANS). Congress has announced its candidate for the by-election to be held on Datia seat of Madhya Pradesh Assembly. According to the press release issued by All India Congress Committee (AICC), Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the candidature of former MLA Ghanshyam Singh from Datia Assembly seat.

With this decision of the party, the political atmosphere of the by-election on Datia seat has become more heated. The Congress organization had already sent the sole name of Ghanshyam Singh to the central leadership for the selection of the candidate. The top leadership accepted the organization’s recommendation and gave the final seal of approval to his candidature.

Ghanshyam Singh is a well-known face of politics in Datia region. He has previously represented Datia Assembly constituency and served as an MLA. In later years he shifted his political center towards Sevdha assembly constituency, from where he continued electoral politics.

However, in the 2023 Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, Ghanshyam Singh had contested on Congress ticket from Datia’s neighboring Sevdha seat, but he had to face defeat. Now after a long gap, Congress has decided to field him again from Datia assembly constituency.

Keeping in mind his identity in Datia region, active role in the organization and local equations, Congress has expressed confidence in him. Ghanshyam Singh is also believed to be related to the Datia royal family, due to which his social and political identity is considered strong in the area.

The by-election to be held on Datia Assembly seat is being considered as a prestige contest for both Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Congress is trying to strengthen its hold on this seat, while BJP is also preparing to use all its strength to retain the seat.

After the announcement of the candidate by Congress, election activities are expected to intensify in Datia. In the coming days, a series of campaign campaigns and public meetings of senior leaders of both the major parties may also begin.
