On Saturday morning (July 18), Delhi Police removed academician Sonam Wangchuk from Jantar Mantar, where she was protesting against the NEET paper leak and demanding Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation. Delhi Police has taken him to the hospital for treatment. Sonam Wangchuk was on hunger strike for the last 20 days. During this action, Delhi Police also took Abhijeet Deepke into custody. In a social media post, Deepke alleged that Delhi Police attacked him; He wrote, “Delhi Police beat me and took me into custody.”

Kokrajhar Janata Party (CJP) spokesperson Saurabh Das gave information about the matter. He told that Delhi Police had stopped Abhijeet Deepke at his house. He said, “I have come to know from people that Sonam Wangchuk is being removed from the protest site and students are being lathicharged.” It is noteworthy that Sonam Wangchuk is on hunger strike since June 28. Amid the CJP-led protests at Jantar Mantar, the protesters had announced to march to Parliament on July 20. However, before this Sonam Wangchuk was removed from the protest site and the students were also asked to leave.

Delhi Police took this action at Jantar Mantar before the hearing in Delhi High Court regarding Sonam Wangchuk’s deteriorating health. The court had earlier directed that Sonam Wangchuk be subjected to daily clinical health check-up and regular medical monitoring and necessary medical assistance should be provided, as the life of every citizen is precious.
