Agartala, July 17 (IANS). Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Friday said that bringing positive changes in the lives of people is the true criterion of development. He stressed that continuous efforts should be made to improve the socio-economic condition of all sections of the society.
He also said that about 80 per cent of the panchayats in the state have been leading at the national level in various performance parameters, reflecting the growing prominence of Tripura in grassroots governance.
The Chief Minister said these things while inaugurating the State Level Panchayat Award 2026-27 program at Gram Swaraj Bhawan located in AD Nagar.
Saha said that Tripura has received national recognition for its excellent work in the Panchayat sector and he credited the Panchayati Raj Department for its sustained efforts.
He said that we have been honored at the national level for our achievements in the Panchayat sector. The Panchayat department is working in the right direction and people have immense faith and trust in the Panchayati Raj institutions.
He emphasized that strengthening the Panchayats is essential for the development of both the state and the country.
Saha said that about 75 percent of Tripura’s geographical area is rural and about 75 percent of the state’s population lives in villages and panchayat areas. Therefore, their development is of utmost importance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently stressed the need to make Panchayats self-reliant and technically empowered. As the Prime Minister has repeatedly said, the goal of a developed India by 2047 cannot be achieved without the development of villages.
Describing villages as the foundation of development, he said that previous governments had focused more on urban development while neglecting rural areas.
He said that the real engine of development lies in the villages only. Rural development is possible only through the collective efforts of the government and the public. Today 51 awards are being presented in various categories to recognize excellence in Panchayat administration.
