New Delhi, April 19 (IANS). There is talk of making Dinesh Trivedi, MP from Barrackpore, West Bengal and former Union Minister, the next High Commissioner of Bangladesh. Bharatiya Janata Party leader and IT cell chief Amit Malviya has congratulated on social media platform X.
Malviya wrote on X, Congratulations to former Union Minister and Barrackpur MP Dinesh Trivedi on being appointed as the High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh.
During the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) era, Dinesh Trivedi, apart from being the Railway Minister, also served as the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare. In the year 2012, a political controversy had arisen over the proposal to increase passenger fares in the Railway Budget. This decision was strongly opposed by Mamata Banerjee and ultimately Trivedi had to resign from his post. Later Mukul Roy was made Railway Minister from TMC quota.
Dinesh Trivedi resigned from TMC on 12 February 2021 and joined BJP the next month on 6 March 2021.
Trivedi was an MP from Barrackpore Lok Sabha seat of West Bengal from 2009 to 2019. Apart from this, he has also been a Rajya Sabha MP during 1990-96 and 2002-08.
Trivedi, 75, has been a very experienced politician. Trivedi will replace career diplomat Prannoy Verma. Trivedi is being discussed at a time when India and Bangladesh are trying to improve their relations after the Mohammad Yunus episode. Relations between the two countries deteriorated when a nationwide movement led to a coup and the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was removed from power. During the tenure of US-backed Yunus, the strain in relations between India and Bangladesh was clearly visible. Recently, parliamentary elections were held in Bangladesh in which Tariq Rahman of BNP was elected Prime Minister. After his arrival, signs of improvement in India-Bangladesh relations are clearly visible.
