New Delhi, July 19 (IANS). Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood on Sunday launched two initiatives aimed at modernizing power infrastructure and promoting clean energy in East Delhi.
He inaugurated the state-of-the-art Smart Pad Mounted Substation at Gandhi Nagar and launched the ‘Solarize East’ campaign. The objective of this campaign is to connect more and more citizens with rooftop solar systems under ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’.
The event was attended by Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Corporate Affairs Harsh Malhotra, MLAs, councilors, representatives of Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), members of housing societies, senior officials of BYPL and a large number of dignitaries.
On this occasion, Sood said that the Delhi government is implementing a long-term and future-oriented strategy for the power sector.
He said that in just one year, an investment of Rs 1,427 crore has been made in capital expenditure of the power sector. The objective of this investment is not only to meet the current needs but also to create a strong foundation for Delhi’s growing energy demand in the future.
He said this investment is being used to strengthen transmission and distribution networks, build new substations, modernize old power infrastructure and accelerate the adoption of smart technologies.
The Electricity Minister said that the highest peak power demand (maximum electricity demand) of 8,748 MW was recorded in Delhi so far this year. Despite such high demand, there was no major problem of power cuts in the city.
He said that this shows the planning of the Delhi government, the capacity of the power distribution companies, the dedication of the engineers and the strength of the power infrastructure of the capital.
Sood said that a reliable power system is the strongest foundation of any modern city.
Industries, businesses, educational institutions, healthcare services, digital services and everyday life of citizens – all depend on uninterrupted and good quality power supply. Therefore, Delhi Government is continuously working towards making the power sector more modern, smart, green and future ready.
He said that our aim is not just to provide electricity, but to provide reliable, affordable, smart and now green electricity.
