Srinagar, June 24 (IANS). Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) spokesperson said on Wednesday that Lok Sabha member Engineer Rashid will get interim bail to attend his father’s ‘Chehlum’ program.
Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) chief spokesperson Inam-un-Nabi said that as per the previous orders of the High Court, Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid will be released on five-day interim bail on Thursday morning, so that he can attend the ‘Chehlum’ (ritual on the 40th day of his death) of his late father.
Inam-un-Nabi said that Chehlum of late Khajir Mohammad Sheikh will be celebrated as per religious traditions. It will be attended by Engineer Rashid along with family members, relatives, well-wishers and supporters.
Inam-un-Nabi said Engineer Rashid is expected to reach Srinagar on Thursday morning and will be present in Srinagar from Friday afternoon to meet people wishing to express their condolences and show solidarity with the bereaved family.
AIP chief spokesperson said that while the family is mourning the demise of a respected elder, the occasion also holds emotional significance for Engineer Rashid, who has not been able to be with his family due to being in jail for a long time.
Engineer Rashid is currently lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail as an accused in a money laundering case related to terror-funding.
He had announced last week that he was unable to see the day-to-day issues of the people who elected him, so he had decided to resign from the Lok Sabha.
Later, his party leaders in Srinagar said that Engineer Rashid would not be allowed to resign from the Lok Sabha without taking the opinion of the people of Baramulla constituency.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Engineer Rashid had defeated National Conference (NC) vice president and sitting chief minister Omar Abdullah in the Baramulla constituency by a margin of over 2 lakh votes.
