Sanjay Saraogi, who has been a six-time MLA from Darbhanga, has been appointed as the new Bihar State President of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with immediate effect.
Saraogi replaces current Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal, who serves as the Industries Minister in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet.
A release issued by the BJP on December 15 said, “Bharatiya Janata Party National President Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda has appointed MLA Shri Sanjay Saraogi as the State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the state of Bihar. This appointment will come into effect with immediate effect.”
On being appointed state BJP president, Saraogi said, “The party is like my mother, and I will work with honesty, devotion and patience to strengthen the party.”
Born on August 28, 1969 in Darbhanga, Bihar, Sanjay Saraogi has a very strong educational background. He holds a Master of Commerce (M.Com) and Master of Business Administration (MBA).
Belonging to the Vaishya community, Sanjay Saraogi’s entry into public life began during his student days, during which he spent nearly a decade in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
During this time, he served in various organizational positions and laid the foundation of his future political career.
By 1999, he had formally entered the party structure and served as the district minister of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).
In 2001, he served as the Darbhanga Municipal Division BJP President, and a year later, in 2002, he was elected ward councilor of Darbhanga Municipal Corporation. His rise in the party continued rapidly; By 2003, he was appointed General Secretary of Darbhanga District BJP.
Sanjay Saraogi has been elected MLA for six consecutive terms, starting with his first victory in February 2005 from Darbhanga constituency. He also retained his seat in the subsequent elections in November 2005, 2010, 2015, 2020 and 2025, marking two consecutive decades of representation.
