Agartala, May 25 (IANS). The Tripura government on Monday announced a series of initiatives aimed at saving fuel and implementing cost control measures, including that from now on all government offices will remain closed on every Saturday and Sunday.

After the cabinet meeting, Transport, Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sushant Chaudhary said that all government offices will remain closed every Saturday and Sunday.

Earlier government offices in the state remained closed only on every Sunday and second and fourth Saturday of the month.

The minister said that office timings on weekdays will now start from 9:30 am instead of 10 am and will continue till 6 pm. An official order from the General Administrative Department said that these measures will reduce electricity and fuel consumption in government offices through strict energy saving measures.

Minister Chaudhary also announced that the recently introduced roster system for ‘Group C’ and ‘Group D’ employees has been canceled with immediate effect. As a result, all government employees will now have to attend office regularly on every working day.

Earlier this month, the Tripura government had ordered 50 per cent of Group C and Group D employees to work from home as part of fuel-saving measures.

This government order comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal to citizens and institutions to save fuel and increase the use of electric vehicles.

The minister, who is also holding the charge of the Tourism Ministry, further said that recruitment to five posts of Small Savings Inspector under the Finance Department will be done through Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC).

Addressing the press conference, Chaudhary said that in view of the recent situation in the Middle East and Prime Minister Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation, the state government has already initiated several expenditure control measures.
