Government considered Delhi blast as a terrorist incident, tribute paid to the dead in cabinet meeting

The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday termed the incident related to the car blast that took place near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening as a terrorist incident. Also expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and property. The Cabinet observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the innocent people killed.

The Cabinet passed a resolution unequivocally condemning this “cowardly and dastardly act” which led to the loss of innocent lives and reiterated India’s commitment to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.

It directed that the terrorist incident be investigated with utmost promptness and professionalism so that the perpetrators and their associates are brought to justice.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav read the proposal while giving information about the cabinet decisions to the media. He said the situation is being closely monitored at the highest levels of the government.

The Cabinet reaffirmed the Government’s determination to protect the lives and welfare of all Indians, in line with its enduring commitment to national security and the safety of every citizen.

The resolution said that the country has witnessed a heinous terrorist incident carried out by anti-national forces through a car blast near the Red Fort on the evening of November 10. Several people died and many others were injured as a result of the explosion.

“The Cabinet pays its deepest tribute to the victims of this senseless act of violence and expresses its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families,” the resolution said.

It said, “The Cabinet wishes a speedy recovery to all the injured and commends the prompt efforts of the medical personnel and emergency responders who cared for and assisted the victims. The Cabinet unequivocally condemns this dastardly and cowardly act which has resulted in the loss of innocent lives.”

“The Cabinet reiterates India’s unwavering commitment to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” it said.

The Cabinet also expressed its appreciation for the statements of solidarity and support from many governments around the world.

“The Cabinet appreciates the timely and coordinated response of the authorities, security agencies and civilians, who acted with courage and compassion in the face of adverse circumstances. Their dedication and sense of duty is highly commendable,” it said.

“The Cabinet directs that the incident be investigated with utmost promptness and professionalism so that the perpetrators, their associates and their sponsors are identified and brought to justice without any delay,” it said.

The National Investigation Agency is investigating the Delhi blast case.
