Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Sunday that GST reform is a major victory for every citizen of the country.
Sitharaman said at an event in Chennai that it has been decided to implement GST reforms before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s instructions to implement GST reforms before the Diwali festival, keeping in mind that every state has its own festivals.
In his address at the ‘Tax Reform for Emerging India for India’ organized by Chennai Citizen Forum, he said that the beneficial impact of goods and service tax will be on all products from morning to sleep at night.
Explaining some major initiatives, Sitharaman said that under GST, the 99 percent of the items which were earlier taxed at 12 percent have been reduced to 5 percent.
The latest set of GST reforms is going to be implemented from September 22.
