Gujarat: Deputy Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of women's shelter home in Surat.

Surat, June 20 (IANS). Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi on Saturday laid the foundation stone of ‘Women’s Protection Home’ to be built at a cost of about Rs 16 crore on Ghoddaur Road in Surat. He then chaired a review meeting on ‘Halapati Housing Scheme’ at Surat Collector Office, which focused on housing facilities and land rights for Halapati and tribal communities.

The new ‘G Plus 2’ shelter home will have the capacity to accommodate 101 women who are victims of violence and exploitation. Officials said that the purpose of this facility is to provide immediate protection and rehabilitation help to women from weaker sections.

Currently, 24 women and a child are living in the women protection home located at Jananidham Campus in Amboli, Kamrej taluka; These are all survivors of domestic violence, gender-based violence, or other forms of abuse.

They are expected to be shifted to the new facility once construction is complete.

Earlier in the day, the Deputy Chief Minister chaired a detailed review meeting on the implementation of Halapati Housing Scheme. Issues related to house allotment, land ownership rights and inheritance rights for members of Halapati and tribal communities in Surat city and SUDA areas were discussed in the meeting.

The meeting examined those cases in which eligible beneficiaries had not yet received the benefits of the scheme due to administrative or technical difficulties.

It was decided that a joint committee comprising representatives from the administration, Surat Municipal Corporation, District Panchayat and Halapati Housing Board would be formed. This committee will identify bottlenecks and ensure timely resolution of pending applications.

Officials were also directed to expedite the issuance of property cards, correct administrative deficiencies and provide necessary legal advice to resolve long-pending inheritance cases.

The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Swamitva Yojana in the district, in which emphasis was laid on expediting the issuance of land and property ownership documents to the eligible beneficiaries.
