Guwahati, April 24 (IANS). Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday paid tribute to former chief minister and freedom fighter Bishnu Ram Medhi on his death anniversary, remembering his immense contribution in shaping the political and administrative landscape of the state.

He said that Medhi’s commitment to public service and his role in India’s freedom struggle remain a source of inspiration for generations.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Remembering former Chief Minister and freedom fighter Bishnu Ram Medhi on his death anniversary. As a great statesman, he played an important role in strengthening and shaping the political journey of Assam.”
In an important announcement, the Chief Minister said that the upcoming Palashbari-Sualkuchi bridge will be named in honor of Medhi, as a tribute to his immortal legacy. Chief Minister Sarma said the move was aimed at recognizing Medhi’s contribution and ensuring that his ideals remain alive in the public mind.
Bishnuram Medhi, who served as Chief Minister of Assam from 1950 to 1957, was one of the prominent leaders of the state in the early years after India’s independence. Known for his administrative skills and strong nationalist values, he played an important role in stabilizing governance and promoting development in Assam.
Leaders from various parties and citizens also paid tribute to the late leader, and remembered his dedication towards the welfare of the public and his efforts to build a strong foundation for the state.
Chief Minister Sarma emphasized that Medhi’s life and work continues to inspire both policy makers and citizens alike, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to uphold the values propounded by him while working towards the progress and prosperity of Assam.
