Congress on Wednesday again took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi after US President Donald Trump reiterated his claim of stopping the conflict between India and Pakistan through trade. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said it was no surprise that the American leader’s good friends in New Delhi no longer wanted to hug him.
Congress general secretary (communications in-charge) Jairam Ramesh shared a video clip of Trump’s remarks in Japan on X, in which he reiterated his claim that he used trade to prevent an India-Pakistan military conflict.
Ramesh said on X, “So far he has said this 54 times. He has said this in America, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Britain. He has said this in flight and also on the ground. Now President Trump has said it again while addressing business leaders in Japan yesterday evening. No wonder his good friends in New Delhi no longer want to hug him.”
Last month, while addressing world leaders from the UN platform, Trump had reiterated his claim that he had stopped the conflict between India and Pakistan. India has consistently maintained that the agreement on cessation of hostilities with Pakistan was reached after direct talks between the Director Generals of Military Operations of the two armies.
