Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde has responded to the statement of Sahar Shaikh, the young corporator of AIMIM party, who recently won the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections. Responding to Sheikh’s statement about “painting Mumbra green”, Shinde hit back and advised him that Mumbra comes under Thane, and Thane’s color is saffron, so how can green color be mixed with saffron colour? The Deputy CM had given this statement on January 23, on the 100th birth anniversary of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray.
It is worth noting that after winning from Ward 30, the statements of Sahar Shaikh and her father Yunus Shaikh had created a big political controversy in the entire Maharashtra. Addressing his supporters, the newly elected AIMIM corporator said, “Allah is with us, and we have the strength of the Majlis; we are not dependent on anyone.” During the same address, he appealed to his supporters to “paint Mumbra green” in the next five years. He claimed that in the coming five years, AIMIM candidates will be seen on all the seats of Mumbra. This statement started a heated political debate in Maharashtra. The matter escalated so much that Mumbra Police had to issue a notice against Sahar Shaikh.
AIMIM candidate clarified on the statement
When Sahar Shaikh’s statements became a topic of discussion across Maharashtra, she clarified. He said that since the color of their flag is green, he said that Mumbra would be green. If their flag was saffron or blue, they said Mumbra would be painted blue or saffron. Following his statement, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya reached Mumbra police station, following which the police issued a notice to the AIMIM corporator warning him not to make such inflammatory speeches.
