*Aam Janata Unnao Party* (AJUP) President Humayun Kabir’s statement of ‘sacrificing’ cows during Bakri Eid has created an uproar. BJP leaders reacted sharply to his comments, saying that if Humayun wants to live in Bengal, he should strictly follow the rules and laws. BJP national spokesperson R.P. Singh said, “If Humayun Kabir has this illusion that he can kill cows, then he should be prepared to go to jail. Legal action will be initiated against him, as both the Supreme Court and the High Court have issued orders clearly banning the killing of cows.”
‘Whether we have to play with fire or fight the storm…’
Meanwhile, in response to Humayun’s warning to “stop playing with fire”, BJP MLA Anand Mishra remarked that those who have been involved in Bengal politics for a long time are actually insulting the dignity of the nation. Therefore, he asserted, “If – in the interest of protecting the dignity of the nation – we are forced to play with fire or fight the storm, we will not back down. Before the honor of the nation, neither any fire nor any storm matters… Suvendu Adhikari will personally look into the matter.” Union Minister of State Raj Bhushan Nishad further said, “Every *worker* of BJP is continuously trying for nation building and will continue to do so. When these special people do not like it, we will not let West Bengal turn into another Bangladesh…”
‘Humayun Kabir is neither above the nation nor the Constitution’
Earlier, BJP leader Priyanka Tibrewal had also asserted that Humayun Kabir is neither above the nation nor the Constitution. As a result, he said that if he declared that he would not comply with the instructions, he would be forced to do so. Every person in West Bengal is bound to follow the instructions issued by the authorities.
He further clarified that this is not a newly created law; Rather, it is a law that has been in existence for a long time. The specific places designated for offering ‘Qurbani’ (*Qurbani*) have already been clearly marked. “Such acts cannot be done on public roads, in private houses or in residential areas. Any violation of these rules will result in the person being called to the police station.” Advertisement
What did Humayun Kabir say?
Recently, the AJUP president issued a direct warning to the BJP and Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, saying, “Don’t play with fire.” He stressed that if they try to ban *Qurbani* (religious sacrifice), it will only create problems for them. Under no circumstances will the Muslim community compromise on the issue of *sacrifice*.
Humayun further said that the tradition of *Qurbani* is 1,400 years old. He announced that *sacrifice* would not stop in the state. He also said that as long as the world continues, *sacrifices* will continue – cows will be sacrificed, goats will be sacrificed and even camels will be sacrificed.
