Mumbai, June 8 (IANS). Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal inaugurated a new ‘Facilitation Centre’ in Dahisar area of Mumbai. This center has been started with the aim of providing better sanitation and basic facilities to the people living in slums. This initiative is linked to the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which the emphasis is on making the life of every citizen more convenient, respectable and better.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Piyush Goyal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi always wants that every citizen of the country gets better facilities, their life becomes easier and they get respect in the society. He said that toilet is not just a facility, but a matter related to the dignity and respect of the people. With this thinking in mind, cleanliness has been made an important part of the country’s development journey.

Piyush Goyal said that people living in slums do not live there willingly, but due to circumstances and compulsions they have to live in such conditions. He said that his wish is that every slum dweller gets a permanent and respectable house through slum redevelopment schemes. However, until this goal is completely achieved, it is necessary to provide better basic facilities to the people.

He told that a big campaign has been started in this direction in North Mumbai. Such convenience centers are being developed in different parts of the city in collaboration with Hindustan Unilever, HSBC, JSW and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This center started in Dahisar is the first facility in North Mumbai and the 25th facility in the country under this initiative.

Piyush Goyal informed that there is a plan to set up 100 more such facility centers in the next three years. These centers will be operated with the participation of local women, which will also provide them employment and self-reliance opportunities.

He informed that the facility centers will have modern toilets along with laundry facilities and clean drinking water at the rate of just Re 1 per litre. Water conservation will also be promoted through water recycling and use of modern technology.

The Union Minister expressed confidence that this initiative will bring a huge positive change in the lives of millions of people living in slums and will prove to be an important step towards making Mumbai a clean, convenient and inclusive city.
