Mumbai, June 20 (IANS). On the occasion of completion of 12 years of Narendra Modi government at the Centre, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday announced that the much-awaited India-United Kingdom (UK) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is going to come into effect from July 15.
Addressing a press conference, Union Minister Goyal said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has taken a confident journey from a country with potential to becoming a self-reliant global power. State co-media chief Omprakash Chauhan and state spokesperson Pankaj Modi were also present on this occasion.
Piyush Goyal said that in the last 12 years, the world faced many major global challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war, but Prime Minister Modi worked to convert every crisis into an economic opportunity.
He said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, India has signed 9 historic Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), through which it has gained access to the markets of 38 developed countries.”
He said that this has opened up new global markets for Indian products, increased employment opportunities and created new business avenues especially for Indian entrepreneurs, farmers, fishermen and women businessmen.
Goyal further said that the bilateral talks held during Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to France and the India-UK FTA coming into effect from July 15 will bring huge positive results for the Indian economy in the near future.
Referring to the global popularity of Prime Minister Modi, the Union Minister said that 33 countries of the world have honored him with their highest civilian honour. These include many developed countries and nations with whom India did not previously have very close diplomatic relations.
Referring to the work done within the country, Goyal said that the basic thinking of the government has been to extend the benefits of schemes to the last person without any discrimination, in which digital technology has played an important role.
He also mentioned several major achievements made in the field of social security and infrastructure.
He said, “More than 55 crore bank accounts have been opened under the Jan Dhan Yojana, out of which more than 32 crore accounts are in the name of women. Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, more than 81 crore people are being given free ration continuously. More than 60 crore health cards have been issued under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, due to which the needy people are getting free treatment. Under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, more than 58 crore people have been provided security cover.” Is.”
Goyal further said that more than 4 crore pucca houses have been provided under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Through the Ujjwala scheme, 11 crore women have got relief from smoke and under the Swachh Bharat Mission, a revolutionary change has been brought in the field of sanitation by constructing more than 12 crore toilets.
At the end of his address, the Union Minister said that the resolution of building a developed India by the year 2047 is the collective goal of 140 crore Indians and this remains the guiding mission for the Central Government.
He also said that the internal security of the country has been significantly strengthened. Decisive action has been taken against terrorism and success has also been achieved in connecting the youth of erstwhile Maoist affected areas with the mainstream.
