Ahmedabad, July 15 (IANS). BJP national spokesperson Rohan Gupta termed the India-UK trade deal as historic. Apart from this, he commented on senior Congress leader P Chidambaram’s delimitation related statement, Assam-Bangladesh infiltration issue, inclusion of 77 Muslim communities in West Bengal’s OBC list and Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute. While supporting BJP on all issues, he accused the opposition of opportunistic politics and appeasement.
Welcoming the free trade agreement between India and the United Kingdom (UK), Rohan Gupta described it as a historic step for the country’s economy and export sector. He said that while moving towards the goal of a developed India, excessive economic dependence on any one country is not in the interest of the country. In recent times, there have been some challenges in India-US trade relations, which made it clear that India will have to develop new and strong global markets for its exports. The Modi government has signed free trade agreements with many countries in the last few years and this agreement with the UK will open new opportunities for Indian exporters. This will give further impetus to India’s exports and strengthen the identity of Indian products in the global market. This agreement will also strengthen the goal of self-reliant India.
After senior Congress leader P Chidambaram claimed that the BJP was trying to garner the support of NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) and DMK to pass the Delimitation Bill, Rohan Gupta hit out at the Congress. He said that Congress should first introspect on its political conduct. The Congress has time and again not maintained trusting relations with its allies and disappointed them when the opportunity arose. Today many parties in the opposition alliance have also understood the working style of Congress. Congress gives priority to its political interests, so it should consider its own position before giving advice to others.
On the issue of illegal infiltration on the Assam-Bangladesh border, the BJP spokesperson said that there should be no politics in matters of national security. He said that whenever the Central or BJP ruled state governments take strict steps to stop illegal infiltration, the opposition starts opposing it. Emphasizing the need to strengthen border fencing and security arrangements, he said that if effective steps were taken in time, the problem of infiltration could have been controlled to a great extent. He further said that the infiltrator has no religion and it is a serious matter related to national security. BJP will not show any laxity regarding border security and wherever necessary, the work of stopping illegal infiltration and taking action as per law will continue.
On the issue of inclusion of 77 Muslim communities in the OBC list of West Bengal, Rohan Gupta accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) of indulging in appeasement politics. He said that the Indian Constitution does not provide for reservation on the basis of religion. Judicial process has also been done on this issue and now instead of confusing people on this issue, decisions should be taken in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution. Today, there is a need in the country not for appeasement but for empowerment politics. The benefits of the schemes of the Central and State Governments should reach all eligible citizens equally and no section should be given a different message just for political gains.
On the Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi dispute, Rohan Gupta accused the opposition of doing opportunistic politics. He said that on the issue of Ram Temple, many leaders try to portray themselves as Hindu or Sanatani at the time of elections, but when their stand is asked on issues like Mathura, they avoid giving clear answers. The public has now understood such politics. People who believe in Sanatan remain consistent in their views, whereas the real thinking of those who use religious issues for electoral gains comes to light with time. The public is now beginning to recognize the difference between opportunistic politics and genuine ideological commitment.
