Janata Dal (United) on Wednesday released its first list of 57 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. According to a release issued by the party, the list of Janata Dal (U) candidates for the first phase of Bihar Assembly elections 2025 has been approved by the party’s national president Nitish Kumar.

The party approved the nomination of JDU state president Umesh Kushwaha from Mahnar, Bihar Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar from Nalanda and Sunil Kumar from Bhore (SC) seat for Bihar Assembly elections.

Earlier, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday released its first list of 71 candidates for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, according to an official statement from the party.

The Central Election Committee has approved the names of Mangal Pandey for Siwan, Tarkishore Prasad for Katihar, Ramkripal Yadav for Danapur, Nitin Nabeen for Bankipur, Renu Devi for Bettiah, Prem Kumar for Gaya Town, Shreyasi Singh for Jamui, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha for Lakhisarai and Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary for Tarapur for the Bihar Assembly elections.

Jan Suraj on Monday released another list of 65 candidates for the upcoming Bihar elections, giving it an edge over its rivals in ticket distribution.

A day earlier, Jan Suraj Party founder Prashant Kishore had said the list was in line with the party’s effort to provide representation to various sections in proportion to their population. He said, “Out of 116 names released in the list, 25 are reserved. Out of the 91 seats being released for the general category, 31 seats have been allotted to the EBC community, 21 seats to the OBC community and 21 seats to the Muslim community.”

The preliminary list of candidates released on October 9 contained names of 51 candidates for the Bihar Assembly elections.

For Bihar elections, NDA has decided on the distribution of seats among its constituent parties, while the Grand Alliance has not done so yet. The Election Commission on Monday issued the notification for the second phase of state assembly elections. Voting will be held in Bihar on November 6 and November 11 and the counting of votes will take place on November 14.

The total number of voters in the final list is 7.42 crore. The ruling NDA decided to distribute tickets on Sunday. BJP and JDU will contest on 101 seats each, while Ram Vilas’s Lok Janshakti Party will contest on 29 seats. Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) will contest on six seats each. Voting for the 243-seat assembly will be held on November 6 and November 11, while counting of votes will take place on November 14.
