As part of the change in power, the Congress government in Karnataka has now handed over the responsibility of leading the state to senior party leader D.K. Has been handed over to Shivkumar. He will take oath as the 25th Chief Minister of the state on June 3. Earlier, following the instructions of the party high command, former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had stepped down. Former Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar said that the swearing-in ceremony will take place on June 3.
**Three years of tussle for power**
For the last three years, there has been a fierce tussle for the seat of power in Karnataka. On Saturday evening, Shivakumar is expected to be elected as the legislature party leader. Before this, there will be a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) on Saturday evening. During this meeting, the formalities related to electing Shivakumar as the leader of the legislature party will be completed. AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal and Karnataka party in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala will also attend the meeting. At the meeting, the CLP will first appreciate the services of Siddaramaiah, after which Shivakumar will be formally elected as the new leader. According to government sources, the swearing-in ceremony will take place in the ‘Glass House’ inside the Lok Bhawan complex. The event will be attended by senior Congress leaders, cabinet colleagues, party workers and supporters from across Karnataka.
**Priyanka Gandhi D.K. Shivkumar’s name was proposed**
The party deliberated a lot on the election of Shivkumar. The announcement of 64-year-old Shivakumar’s name came a day after Siddaramaiah resigned as chief minister after consulting the Congress high command in Delhi. As a result, the move is also being seen as the implementation of a carefully crafted leadership arrangement by the Congress party.
Congress leader and MP Priyanka Gandhi met D.K. Shivkumar’s name was proposed. The two have very cordial relations; Two years ago, during the Lok Sabha elections, D.K. Shivakumar had actively participated in Priyanka Gandhi’s election campaign in Wayanad. D.K. Along with him, Shivkumar and five other MLAs are also expected to take oath as ministers. After this, the party will take a decision on cabinet expansion. The party intends to hold detailed discussions on cabinet expansion.
