करूर भगदड़ मामला: टीवीके रैली की सुरक्षा में तैनात पुलिसकर्मियों को सीबीआई ने भेजा नोटिस

Chennai, January 8 (IANS). The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing the horrific stampede case that took place on September 27, 2025 in Karur district of Tamil Nadu, has started sending summons to the policemen deployed for security during the rally of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Vijay. 41 people were killed in this stampede.

According to official sources, the CBI has summoned those police officers and jawans whose names are mentioned in the arrangement (security) plan prepared for Vijay’s visit to Karur. The summons have been sent to personnel deployed in various areas of the district, including Velusamypuram, where actor-turned-politician Vijay addressed a huge gathering from his caravan.

Traffic police personnel deployed to handle traffic arrangements on the day of the rally have also been called for questioning.

Earlier, CBI had arrested the then District Collector M. Thangavel and Superintendent of Police K. in this case. Many senior district officials including Jose Thangaiah have been interrogated. Now the focus of the investigation is on the security deployment made at the ground level and its implementation.

This case was re-registered by the CBI following the Supreme Court order dated October 13, 2025. As part of the investigation, the agency has obtained a detailed settlement plan, which contains the names, ranks and duty stations of the policemen deployed for the TVK rally.

According to official records, around 500 police personnel were deployed for security and crowd control during Vijay’s visit and rally. Sources said that many of these personnel are now being called for questioning.

The CBI is currently conducting inquiries at the Circuit House in Karur, which is being used as a temporary office after it takes over the investigation in October 2025. On an average, five to ten policemen are appearing before the agency every day.

During interrogation, CBI officials are taking information from the policemen about their exact duty place, period of posting, original place of work and officers assigning them security responsibility.

Meanwhile, some social workers and local residents of Karur have also contacted CBI officials and expressed their willingness to provide information and suggestions related to the stampede. According to sources, the agency has assured them that they will be given a chance to record their statements after the ongoing interrogation of the policemen is completed.
