The Congress on Saturday said India ending its operations at the Ayni air base in Tajikistan is “another blow” to the country’s strategic diplomacy.
Party General Secretary Jairam Ramesh wrote onHe said that four years ago a clear message was given to India that it would have to withdraw gradually.
Ramesh claimed, ‘Now it appears that India has finally closed that base. Undoubtedly this is another blow to our strategic diplomacy. “Incidentally, Ayni is about 10 km from the capital Dushanbe where there is a wonderful museum,” he said. One of the most fascinating and remarkable exhibits there is the Nirvana Buddha, which is believed to be over 1500 years old.’

He informed that the agreement between the governments of India and Tajikistan regarding the development and joint operation of the airport had expired about four years ago.
