Mumbai, March 3 (IANS). Shiv Sena UBT leader and former minister Aditya Thackeray on Tuesday said that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has not yet decided on the Rajya Sabha seat. Also, he claimed that the decision will be taken soon.
He said NCP SP leaders Supriya Sule and Jayant Patil met Shiv Sena UBT Chief Uddhav Thackeray and reiterated that talks were still going on.
In an ex-post, Aditya Thackeray said, “Supriya Sule ji and Jayant Patil ji met Uddhav Thackeray ji in Matoshree today. No decision has been taken yet on the Rajya Sabha seat, and it will be done soon. All MVA partners will be together to discuss the seat and political alignment.”
Let us tell you that the last date for filing no-action paper is March 5, while voting will take place on March 16.
The meeting between Uddhav Thackeray and NCP SP is very important, especially when Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has staked claim on the Rajya Sabha seat. Similarly, the Congress party has also expressed its desire, while NCP SP Chief Sharad Pawar has not staked claim to the seat. However, Sule has recently said that many MVA leaders want the senior Pawar to be made the MVA candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat.
Earlier, Aditya Thackeray on Monday said that there is no hindrance in talks for Rajya Sabha elections as all the parties associated with Maha Vikas Aghadi are in talks with each other.
“We have staked our claim on the upcoming Rajya Sabha seat because, numerically and as per the rotation policy set for the MVA, Shiv Sena UBT should contest this seat. It is also in line with the political stand we have taken as an India alliance,” Aditya Thackeray said in an X Post.
Similarly, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Varun Sardesai last Friday clarified the party’s position and said that this seat truly belongs to Uddhav Thackeray’s group.
Sharad Pawar himself has not yet made any public or official statement about his candidature, so the Congress party has also maintained its claim on the seat, making the alliance’s seat-sharing formula more difficult.
The ruling Mahayuti, which has 233 members, is likely to win six seats with the support of Bharatiya Janata Party 131, Shiv Sena 57, NCP 40 and nine smaller parties and independent candidates.
The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi has 46 members, Shiv Sena (UBT) 20, Congress 16, and NCP (SP) 10, and hence they can win just one seat.
