At the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) press conference today, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi praised the performance of the party and its allies in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections. According to early trends, BJP has emerged as the largest party with a lead on 98 seats. He described this victory as a befitting reply to the opposition.
Describing this victory as historic, Trivedi thanked the people of Maharashtra for supporting the BJP and Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena alliance.
Trivedi said, “Today the BJP and our alliance partners have achieved a significant victory in the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections. It shows the continued support the BJP and the NDA are receiving under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi… We thank the people of Maharashtra and all the supporters on behalf of the BJP for this success in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), one of the largest municipal bodies not only in India but possibly in the whole of Asia…”
Trivedi further said that the younger generation has entrusted the responsibility of development to Mahayuti and described their support as “a promising sign for the future of the country”.
He said, “I can say that the people of Maharashtra have approved this new development for India… I think Generation Z has voted in favor of ‘Developed India’… This success is definitely a very good sign for the future of the country, a positive sign.”
Taking aim at the opposition, Trivedi questioned the very existence of the India Bloc and described the ruling party’s victory as “a befitting reply”. He also rejected the possibility of a possible alliance of Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Congress in West Bengal.
The BJP MP claimed, “The people of Maharashtra have given a befitting reply to those doing negative politics. Now the question is whether the Indian alliance even survives. There is no possibility of TMC and Congress contesting elections together in Bengal too.”
The BJP MP said Mahayuti’s emerging victory is a sign that Maharashtra is still imbued with “nationalist consciousness”.
He said, “This is clear evidence that this land of great kings – which has been the center of cultural pride of India and is deeply associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Hindavi Swaraj – is still imbued with nationalistic consciousness.”
Attacking the opposition, Trivedi accused them of pretending to be united and said people were fed up with their “so-called anti-Hindi fundamentalist parties”.
He alleged, “Every election held since 2024 – even at the municipal level – has clearly exposed the immense desperation of the so-called anti-Hindi fundamentalist parties. As has been repeatedly said – these people talk of unity on the stage, but behind the scenes they keep snatching every inch of land from each other.”
In an indirect attack on Lok Sabha opposition leader Rahul Gandhi’s allegations of vote theft, Trivedi said the party’s continuous victories were an answer to the opposition. He also dedicated a song to highlight the flaws of the opposition.
Trivedi said, “In this context, I remember an old song – ‘Yeh parties ek aapse keh rahi hai’: Milo na tum to hum ghabarayein, milo to aankh churaye humne kya ho gaya hai?”
He asserted, “The same parties that shy away from eye contact, that have neither trust nor leadership, are today accusing us of theft and dishonesty. The truth is that the public has seen too well of their infighting, opportunistic politics and failures – and that is what they are getting in every election.”
His comments come at a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena alliance has further strengthened its lead in the BMC elections.
The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance is leading on 128 seats, while the Shiv Sena is leading on 30 seats.
Meanwhile, the BJP has once again put in a strong performance in the other 28 municipal corporations, as trends show the party leading in Nagpur, Pune, Thane, Nashik and Shambhajinagar municipal corporations.
