Guwahati, May 11 (IANS). Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Monday described the swearing-in ceremony of Himanta Biswa Sarma as a ‘historic day’ for the BJP. Along with this, he said that the party’s return to power in Assam for the third time with an overwhelming majority shows the public’s faith in the development agenda of Prime Minister Modi and the National Democratic Alliance.
Speaking to reporters after reaching Guwahati to attend Sarma’s swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance coming to power in Assam for the third consecutive time is an important political achievement.
Chauhan said, “These are extraordinary days. The Bharatiya Janata Party has formed the government for the third consecutive time with a record-breaking majority. This is a victory of public trust on Prime Minister Modi, a victory of development and a victory of public welfare.”
The Union Minister launched a scathing attack on the Congress, alleging that the opposition party has become a ‘communal party’.
He further said, “Congress has now become a communal party. Assam has witnessed remarkable development under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma. With the blessings and guidance of Prime Minister Modi, the state is moving towards a secure and developed Assam, contributing to the realization of the dream of a developed India.”
Chouhan congratulated the people of Assam and the leadership of the National Democratic Alliance on the election victory and expressed confidence that the new government will accelerate development projects in the northeastern state.
The swearing-in ceremony of Himanta Biswa Sarma as Chief Minister for the second consecutive term will be held at Khanapara in Guwahati on Tuesday. Several senior Bharatiya Janata Party leaders, including Union ministers and chief ministers of National Democratic Alliance-ruled states, are expected to attend the ceremony.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh are also likely to be present at the swearing-in ceremony, which Bharatiya Janata Party leaders have described as an important political occasion for the party in the northeast.
