'May everyone be blessed by the blessings of Lord Surya', PM Modi wishes Chhath Puja

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended greetings on the occasion of Chhath Puja and wished happiness, prosperity and success for the people across the country.

In a post on Twitter, PM Modi said, “Congratulations to our family members across the country for the evening arghya of the great festival Chhath. Our tradition of offering arghya to the setting sun on this auspicious occasion is very special.”

He wrote, “By the grace of Sun God, everyone should get well-being, everyone should get happiness, wealth and success in life, this is my wish. Jai Chhathi Maiya.”

Earlier, President Draupadi Murmu congratulated the people on this occasion and wished happiness and prosperity for everyone.

President Murmu said in a post on Twitter, “I heartily congratulate all the countrymen on the auspicious occasion of the great festival of Chhath Puja. This festival is an opportunity to worship Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya and express gratitude towards Mother Nature. My wish is that this festival brings happiness and prosperity in everyone’s life and inspires us to conserve the environment.”

Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also shared her wishes, posting a line from a traditional song and praying for peace, happiness and prosperity for all the devotees observing the fast.

She wrote on Instagram, “Chhathi Maiya has erased all the sorrows, ruve asra hamar. Sabke puraveli mansa, humro sun lien pukar. Best wishes for ‘Chhath Puja’, the great festival of Sun God and Chhathi Maa worship, nature worship and folk faith. On this auspicious occasion, I bow to all the fasting people. May Chhathi Maiya spread happiness, peace and prosperity in everyone’s life. Jai Chhathi Maiya.”

The four-day Chhath festival dedicated to the worship of Sun God began with the sacred ritual of Nahay-Khay on Saturday, followed by Kharna on Sunday and today is Sandhya Arghya (evening Arghya). This festival will conclude with morning Arghya on Tuesday.

This year this festival is being celebrated from 25 to 28 October, which includes Nahay-Khay on Chaturthi Tithi of Kartik Shukla Paksha, Kharna on Panchami, Chhath Puja on Shashthi and concluding Usha Arghya on Saptami.
