Media is the mirror of society, journalists should stay updated in digital age: Tripura Chief Minister

Agartala, February 14 (IANS). Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Saturday said media is the mirror of the society and stressed the need for journalists to remain constantly updated in this era of artificial intelligence (AI), internet and globalization.

The Chief Minister said that today is the era of AI and Internet. Globalization has come, so journalists should keep themselves updated. News should be presented with honesty and integrity in accordance with the changing times.

Saha, who also holds the charge of Information and Cultural Affairs, was speaking while inaugurating the two-day biennial state conference and journalists’ workshop of the Tripura Working Journalists Association.

The theme of this year’s Journalist Workshop is ‘Embrace Change’.

Congratulating the delegates, Saha said that the present state government is a media-friendly government and stressed the importance of professional training in journalism. He said that such training programs are very important. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly emphasized that efficiency should be increased in all sectors.

Highlighting the role of media in the democratic system, the Chief Minister said that media is considered the fourth pillar of democracy. He said that the pen is sharper than the sword. Journalists of Tripura are no less capable than journalists of other states. Staying within our limits, we have taken several initiatives for the welfare of journalists.

Saha said the state government receives daily information on law and order and other issues from various news agencies, district magistrates, sub-divisional magistrates, block administrations and grassroots level functionaries across the state.

He further said that a monitoring system has been introduced to ensure proper coordination.
