Congress parliamentary party chief Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday alleged that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has taken steps like a “death warrant” for the Aravalli hills. In an article written for the English daily newspaper ‘The Hindu’, he mentioned that mining has been exempted in any area of ​​Aravali below 100 meters height.

The Supreme Court on November 20 accepted the central government’s definition of the Aravalli Hills, which reportedly states that no hills in this mountain range less than 100 meters in height are subject to restrictions against mining.The Congress shared an excerpt from Gandhi’s article in a national daily, which said. The Congress leader sought changes at the policy level and requested the Center to withdraw the amendments in the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 and the Forest Conservation Rules, 2022.

Earlier on November 20, former Chief Justice of Indiabr GawaiThe Supreme Court bench headed by Justice R.K. had passed an order accepting the definition of Aravalli hills and ranges as per the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.The Supreme Court also accepted the recommendations on unsustainable mining and steps to be taken to stop illegal mining in the Aravalli Hills.
