Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said improvement in law and order and rapid infrastructure development in Uttar Pradesh under the BJP’s “twin-engine government” has transformed connectivity and public confidence in the state. He inaugurated Namo Bharat Rapid Rail and Meerut Metro services from a single platform.
Addressing a gathering after the launch, the Prime Minister said that areas which used to become deserted after sunset, are now being connected with modern, safe and efficient transport systems. He also recalled his interactions with students and other passengers while traveling in the Meerut Metro earlier in the day.
He said, “Everyone remembers the old days. Especially sisters and daughters told me that a few years ago, the entire road used to become deserted in the evening. There was an atmosphere of fear and apprehension. Now law and order has improved and people get convenient and safe travel.”
Describing the launch of the rapid rail and metro services as “a new revolution for developed Uttar Pradesh and developed India”, Prime Minister Modi highlighted that for the first time, NaMo Bharat rapid rail and metro services were inaugurated from a single platform on the same day, which he described as a glimpse of what connectivity would look like in a developed India.
He said, “Today a new revolution is gaining momentum for a developed Uttar Pradesh and a developed India. Today for the first time, the NaMo Bharat Rapid Rail and Metro services are being inaugurated simultaneously from a single platform. This is a great glimpse of what the connectivity of a developed India will look like.”
The Prime Minister said that the modern Namo Bharat trains will give impetus to the vision of integrated metro system in urban areas and development of twin cities. Expressing satisfaction over the completion of the project in Uttar Pradesh, he said that such an initiative reflects the working style of the BJP government.
He further said, “Metro within the city and modern trains like Namo Bharat will give impetus to the vision of twin cities. I am happy that this work has been done in Uttar Pradesh. Today’s program also reflects the working style of the BJP’s double engine government. Our working style is that we will have to work day and night to complete the project for which the foundation stone has been laid.”
Prime Minister Modi also emphasized the role of women in new transportation systems and said that NaMo Bharat Rapid Rail has become a symbol of women empowerment. He told that many train operators, station operators and employees are women.
“I am happy that this service is being led by our daughters,” he said.
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi flagged off the Meerut Metro and Namo Bharat train at Shatabdi Nagar Namo Bharat station. From there the Prime Minister traveled by metro to Meerut South station, where he interacted with the students.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, UP BJP President and Union Minister Pankaj Choudhary, along with officials, accompanied the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated various development projects worth about Rs 12,930 crore in Meerut and dedicated them to the nation. The Prime Minister dedicated the entire 82 km long Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor to the nation. He also inaugurated the remaining sections of India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). These include a 5-km stretch between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi and a 21-km stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.
With a design speed of 180 kilometers per hour, NaMo India is India’s first regional rapid transit system. It will connect major urban centres. The situation is becoming more serious in areas like Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut as compared to Delhi.
