ISKCON will start providing mid-day meals in schools in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal from August 1, the official told the media after the meeting at Vikas Bhawan. They will also provide some subsidy. The food will be of high quality. The amount allocated for primary school lunch will be increased to Rs 10 per student from the current Rs 6.78 per student.
At the same time, the cost of daily food for patients undergoing treatment in government health centers has been increased from Rs 56.64 to Rs 110.00. From August 1, 2026, patients admitted in hospitals will get better quality balanced food.
The main objective of the government is to stand with the common and underprivileged people and provide them high quality opportunities, facilities and services. Taking care of the health and nutrition of every citizen of the state is our priority. Maintaining the quality of food in government services had become challenging due to the increase in prices of essential commodities.
It is noteworthy that the last revision in the prices of food items took place in 2017. After a long wait of almost 9 years, within just 2 months of assuming power, our government has decided to take positive steps in this matter.
The government is always committed to the welfare of the public. Nutritious food will be effective in improving the health of patients, developing the intelligence of children and building good health.
