Union Home Minister Amit Shah described Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar’s tenure as Bihar Chief Minister as a “golden chapter” in the state’s history and welcomed his return to national politics as he filed nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections.
Amit Shah emphasized Nitish Kumar’s “brilliant” tenure as Chief Minister of Bihar, during which he made significant contributions to Bihar’s progress.
He said, “The Chief Minister of Bihar has filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha. With this, after a long gap, he will once again enter national politics as a Rajya Sabha MP. Nitish Kumar has been the Chief Minister of Bihar since 2005. His tenure has been truly glorious. This tenure will be written as a golden chapter in the history of Bihar, which shaped all aspects of the development of Bihar…In his long career as MLA, MP, Chief Minister and Union Minister, “Kurta was never tarnished. His entire life was free from allegations of corruption.”
He further said, “For 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, he contributed significantly to the progress of Bihar in every way, and under his leadership all the initiatives of Prime Minister Modi reached the people of Bihar. He is once again returning to Delhi as a Rajya Sabha MP. I and all our NDA colleagues extend a warm welcome to him, and his tenure as Chief Minister will always be remembered and respected by the people of Bihar.”
This statement has come at a time when a major political change has been seen in Bihar, in which the current Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has filed nomination for Rajya Sabha from Patna.
Apart from Nitish Kumar, other NDA candidates including BJP president Nitin Nabin, RLM chief Upendra Kushwaha, BJP’s Shivesh Kumar and JDU’s Ram Nath Thakur also filed their nominations for the Upper House.
Nitish Kumar, the longest serving Chief Minister of Bihar, had already announced that he will go to the Rajya Sabha and file his nomination in the current election cycle.
Nitish Kumar said in a post on X, “I want to become a member of the Rajya Sabha in the elections being held this time. I want to assure you with all sincerity that my relationship with you will continue in the future also and my resolve to work with you for building a developed Bihar will remain firm. The new government to be formed will get my full support and guidance.”
Nitish Kumar’s announcement drew reactions, with the opposition reiterating that the BJP’s intention was from the very beginning to remove him from the post of Chief Minister.
Tejashwi Yadav launched a scathing attack and said that his allegation of “kidnapping” has been proved true.
He said, “Everyone knows that in the Bihar elections, the NDA had given the slogan ‘Nitish again 30 times from 2025’. The constituent parties of the BJP and the NDA know how the elections were conducted on the basis of gimmicks, tantrums and the entire system. At that time also we had said that the people of the BJP have ‘hijacked’ Nitish Kumar and they will not let him sit on the chair again. We had said that they will not allow him to sit on the chair again for six months. Won’t be able to stay on the chair for long.”
The incident comes after Nitish Kumar’s fifth victory in 2025, when the NDA won a two-thirds majority in the state and was sworn in for the tenth time. He is the longest serving Chief Minister of Bihar.
