Washington, June 20 (IANS). Peace deal has been reached between America and Iran. From G7 Summit to Truth Social, current US President Donald Trump has been continuously targeting former President Barack Obama. They have been calling the ‘Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action’ (JCPOA) as ‘an attempt to bribe Iran’ and are terming their recent peace agreement as the best. Now Obama has strongly opposed Iran policy. He has said that the situation has become worse than before.
Former US President Barack Obama, who signed America’s last nuclear deal with Iran, criticized the Trump administration’s Iran policy in an interview with NBC.
In the program broadcast Friday, Obama said, “We have now fought a war, spent trillions and trillions of dollars, put enormous pressure on our military. Too many lives have been lost. And it looks like we’re back to where we were before we started the war, in fact, maybe a little worse.”
Obama said he was pleased with the ceasefire and expected it to hold. “I am very happy to see the ceasefire and hope it lasts,” he said.
Along with this, the former President also questioned the justification of the policy and military action adopted against Iran by the Trump administration, saying that under the Iran nuclear deal signed during his tenure, Iran had agreed not to develop nuclear weapons.
Obama said, “Iran had agreed not to develop nuclear weapons. This administration, or the administration that preceded it, withdrew from that agreement, which resulted in Iran further expanding its nuclear capability.”
In fact, in 2015, the Barack Obama administration signed a nuclear deal with Iran named ‘Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action’ (JCPOA). Unlike Trump administration policies, this was a detailed and formal agreement, consisting of more than 160 pages of document. Its main objective was to stop Iran’s nuclear activities and limit its nuclear program.
However, Donald Trump described it as “very bad” and in 2018 canceled the agreement by withdrawing the US from it.
